ALIAS FOR COMFORT — Even with the advancements in golf fashion over the past decade, “cool” is seldom used to describe the clothing many of us wear on the golf course. But Dale Morrow of Alias Shoes is changing all that, one step at a time. And he’s found that his lightweight Xtreme kicks with no break-in needed are appealing to more than just the GenX set.

“We originally wanted to target younger folks, but most of the seniors are super-stoked on the wide fit. They love it,” says the Santa Cruz-based Morrow, who brought his experience in surf, skate and snowboard outerwear design to the golf industry, long in need of something to bridge the gap in golf shoes between leather dress-ups and tighty-whitey tennis shoes.

“I pal around with dirt bikers, skaters and snowboarders, and we wanted to keep that look and image for the golf course. We were wearing street shoes on the course. I started to look in the market for something to wear with shorts with street flavor and couldn’t find anything. Someone gave me a traditional pair of golf shoes, but after nine holes they blistered and cramped my feet. I thought, Why does a golf shoe have to be like this? Somebody has to do something about it.”
What Morrow did was create some of the most comfortable shoes on the market, which appeal to everyone from big-swinging newcomers to the pull-cartin’ older set. We’ve even seen them dress up the golfing wardrobe of a 70-year-old-plus high-handicapper who wears them every chance he gets.
