Opened in 1998 on the sage-dotted foothills of south Reno, Wolf Run — home of both the men's and women's University of Nevada, Reno golf teams — brought with it a surprising golf design pedigree. Fleming was the longtime superintendent at San Francisco's famed Olympic Club, and Eiguren was its head pro for a while. Together they fashioned a fun, variety-packed residential course centered around White's Creek, which comes into play on nearly half the holes. Several are terraced on desert bluffs affording 30-mile views of the Truckee Meadows and mountains, while others are tucked in arroys teeming with wildlife. Dollar for dollar and shot for shot, this is one of Northern Nevada's finest family golf experiences — capped with ultra-friendly service and great chow in the Wolf Run Grill.
