While its sister Fairfield Golf course, Rancho Solano, takes a more pure, tree-heavy parkland route, Paradise Valley sports an open, longer, more rambling personality, besting Solano by some 400 yards from the tips and boasting what's probably the toughest hole on either course, the 467-yard par-4 finisher that wraps around a lake. For fans of that great, sleek conditioning NorCal is known for, this is indeed paradise; it's green year-round and its big bunkers and greenside mounding stand out even more starkly when the hills go brown in summer. Locals who love to lug their sticks prefer Paradise Valley's flatter nature, but walking or riding, it's a good trip unspoiled — and another solid value.
